The politics of St. Lucia take place in the form of a parliamentary democracy where the British monarch is head of State and the Prime Minister is head of government. The head of state is represented by a Governor General which generally has a ceremonial function.

Known for its stunning landscape with volcanoes and waterfalls as well as being the only state named after a woman, St. Lucia has had a stable history. Before contact with Europeans, the area was inhabited by the Arawak Indians. After Christopher Columbus discovered the island, a colony was established by the French at the start of the 17th century. During this time, the island was mainly used for the production of agriculture with the help of African slaves. After ceding the territory to the British, and the abolishment of slavery by the British in 1834, St. Lucia started on a path for independence. By 1967, Saint Luciana has gained full territorial control with the exception of defence. By 1979, it became fully independent from the United Kingdom. Since then, it has seen minor political upheavals as well as economic setbacks. .

 St. Lucia a is an island state which is located on the southern part of the Caribbean Island chain. Its main island is mainly made up of a central mountain range that runs through the whole island. Its terrain is mainly covered by densely forested areas with the exception of its urbanized areas. It borders no other states, but it is located on the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Caribbean Sea to the west. 

It is the 177th largest state with a total surface area of 619 square kilometers or 239 square miles. This makes Saint Lucia slightly smaller than Andorra and slightly larger than Micronesia. 

It has a total water surface area of 10 square kilometers or 4 square miles. This makes Saint Lucia the 147th largest state in the world.

Most of its water can be found in its numerous rivers as well as several water reservoirs. Most of its tap water is considered safe to drink, but is heavily chlorinated. 

The climate of Saint Lucia is a tropical climate with hot and humid weather throughout the year. The average temperature is 26.35 degrees Celsius or 79 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes Saint Lucia the 30th warmest state in the world. 

The average high temperature is 29.5 degrees Celsius or 85 degrees Fahrenheit. 

The average low temperature is 24.5 degrees Celsius or 76.1 degrees Fahrenheit. 

Rainfall is fairly evenly spread out throughout St. Lucia out with its mountainous area receiving two times the amount of its coastal area. The majority of its rainfall occurs during the wet season, between June to November when it receives three times the amount of rainfall compared to its dry season. On average, Saint Lucia receives 164.8 centimetres or 64.9 inches of rainfall per year which ranks it as the 46th highest in the world. 

The capital of St. Lucia, Castries, is home to approximately 20,000 people. The closest capital is Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, with a distance of 89 kilometers or 55 miles. The capital that is the furthest removed is Dili, Timor-Leste, with a distance of 19.099 kilometers or 11.868 miles.  

The economy of St. Lucia is considered to be a developing economy which has changed in recent decades. During its colonial era, it mainly exported sugar. However, as global sugar prices dropped it has shifted its agricultural output to bananas as a result of several hurricanes. Its agricultural output started to decline rapidly and at the start of the 21st century, it has shifted its economy towards tourism which has had limited success.  Most of its exported products are currently bananas, cocoa and petroleum which are mainly exported to Barbados and the United States which combined represent 45 percent of all exports. Most of its imports comes from Trinidad and Tobago and the United States which combined represent nearly 60 percent of all imports.

It has a GDP of US$1.938 million, which makes it the 173rd highest in the world and represents 0.000023 percent of total global GDP.  

Its GDP per surface area is the 37th highest in the world with US$3.130.251 per square kilometer or US$8.101.827 per square mile.  

Its GDP per capita is the 68th highest in the world with US$10.594.

With a total population of 180,000 people, St. Lucia a is the 178th most populous state in the world. The vast majority of the population consists of descendants of slaves and are mainly of African descent. Other smaller populations are the white population which mainly exists of French and English settlers as well as descendants from Indian migrants. 

It has the 33rd highest population density in the world with 295 people per square kilometer or 762 people per square mile.  

Approximately 26 percent, or nearly 50,000 people have migrated to other states. The main destinations have been the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada and the main reason for migration has been economic. 

Immigration to St. Lucia is represented by 2.7 percent of the population, or 5000 people. Despite having a relatively open immigration policy in order to compensate for its high number of emigrants, due to its social and economic factors, immigration is limited. 

With a literacy rate of 89.7 percent of the population, St. Lucia is the 116th most literate state in the world. Even though education is compulsory between the ages of five and 15, it has only been enforced for just over two decades. This means that there is a discrepancy in literacy between the younger and elder population. 

The health care system of St. Lucia has made limited improvements over the last two decades. The current health threats to the population of St. Lucia are a combination between communicable and noncommunicable diseases. The leading cause of death within communicable diseases is related to the mosquito borne diseases such as the zika, malaria and chikungunya. The average life expectancy is 76.69 years which is the 82nd highest in the world. Women have an average life expectancy of 78.06 years, while men have an average life expectancy of 75.3 years. 

The government of St. Lucia provides freedom of religion towards all religions. 

It is the 69th most Christian state in the world with a share of 75.9 percent. The largest denomination is Roman Catholicism followed by Protestantism.

Approximately 0.1 percent of the population adheres to Islam which makes it the 165th most Islamic state in the world. 

There are no official Buddhist organizations in St. Lucia. 

Approximately 0.2 percent of the population adheres to Hinduism and is mainly represented by descendants from the Indian subcontinent that were relocated by the British Empire. 

Judaism is represented by 0.03 percent of the population and are mainly descendants from refugees from the Spanish Inquisition. 

Other religions are represented by 1.7 percent of the population and mainly consist of the Rastafari movement. 

Irreligion is represented by four percent.
